2. What lessons have you learned from this book so far? What themes, lessons, or examples will you take from this book and bring into your own life? Has it changed your perspective on issues at all? How so?
Well, I think one of the themes is that Scout and Jem faced the cruelty, and racism of the world. While their father is trying to protect them from all the uglyness, and racism. Scout is told that her daddy is a niggerlover, when she doesn't even know what that means. It becomes harder and harder for Atticus to keep then from the badness of the world, and the kids are maturing, and changing their ways of thinking. Scout has to go around asking people what rape is, because she is a young girl, and is hearing all the words that she doesn't even need to know yet.
Jem was shocked to hear the verdict of the trial. Jem knew Mr.Robinson was innocent. He saw how much his father did, and all the evidence that proved Robinson innocent, yet they still charged him guilty. This was a big shocker to Jem, he saw how cruel people were just because the color of a person's skin. It was hard for Jem processing it though. It would be hard for me too, watching my dad go through all the effort to prove a man innocent, and still be charged guilty for the color of his skin.
